Just like human beings, animals have feelings, too – there’s no doubt of it. Especially when it comes to those who take care of them, or more, for people who saved their life. And this cute baby rhino is no different
Kabelo was only a few months old when he lost his mom due to poaching. Thankfully he got rescued just in time and brought to The Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. Scared and confused, the little calf thought he had no one to comfort him anymore, but fortunately he met Laura Ellison, a vet nurse at the orphanage.
The woman felt in love with the baby rhino, the first moment she saw him. She offered him the love and comfort he needed after losing his natural mom. In return, the cute calf can’t stop hugging his adoptive mom.
“I have been with Kabelo since his arrival to the orphanage and we have developed such a strong bond,” the nurse wrote in a social media post. “While Kabelo is so comfortable with me, he is not with many others.”
Even though she cared for dozens of orphan rhinos, Laura says Kabelo is different and the bond that connects them is so special. She said despite the little one is still a wild animal, he has “the capacity to love so forgivingly.” And even after “humans took his mother and for him to trust me the way he does is incredibly bittersweet. Rhinos deserve a life with their mothers without human interference.”
When he will be old enough, Kabelo would return in the wild, but until there he enjoys every moment alongside his adoptive mom. “His capacity to love and the pure gentleness of that love will always take my breath away,” the kind woman also wrote.
