It’s heartwarming to see him finally home with her. ❤ SO SWEET!! A dog’s LOVE & LOYALTY is truly unmatched. 💖🙏🏼 Dogs are incredible animals; they’re always there for their owners.
This was the case for Brian Myers, whose life was saved by the very dog he rescued a few months earlier. Their reunion after Myers was released from the hospital was even more emotional than their first meeting.
Myers adopted Sadie, a 6-year-old German Shepherd, after she was surrendered to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in New Jersey. The shelter staff found it difficult to place Sadie because she was nervous around men and defensive.
Heather Centrella, the front office manager at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, told The Dodo: “She was a little standoffish when she first came in and wasn’t sure what was going on. She shut down a bit in the shelter, so we knew she needed an experienced home with someone patient.”
What a hero!
It took only 30 minutes for Myers to decide to bring Sadie home after they met. “She jumped into my car, and we developed a strong bond. I worked through her issues and committed to giving her the love and home she deserved,” Myers said.
He told The Washington Post: “She kept licking me and crying, so I reached my right hand up to pet her and grabbed her collar.” Myers had no idea that Sadie would save his life a few months later. One night, Myers suddenly had a stroke. He lost feeling on his left side and fell between his bed and the wall.
What a great dog! ❤
Myers shared: “It was really frightening—I couldn’t get up and didn’t realize I’d had a stroke. My cellphone was on the dresser about 15 feet away, but I couldn’t reach it.” Sadie sprang into action, licking his face to revive him and refusing to leave his side. She barked for help, hoping the neighbors would hear. Myers reached out to grab her collar and was surprised by what happened next. Sadie used all her strength to drag him across the room closer to his phone.
Such a sweet reunion! 🥰
He shared: “She wasn’t trained as a service dog, but she was distressed by what was happening and knew I was in trouble. I don’t know how she did it, but she knew.” Myers was able to reach his phone and call for help. Doctors at the hospital told him Sadie likely saved his life. Sadie stayed with Myers’ family while he was in the hospital and rehab.
Centrella said: “They do FaceTime, which she’s a little confused by because she wants to get to her dad and cries. But he reassures her that he’s doing everything he can to get home to her soon.”
Such love for her owner! ❤️
When that day finally came, it was a joyful one. Myers shed tears as Sadie leaped into his arms and covered his face with kisses. That’s the true meaning of love… ❤️❤️❤️ The bond between a man and his dog is absolutely fantastic. They understand more than we realize. 🥰
Well done—what a remarkable relationship! Dogs are amazing animals. She deserves a great treat after all she’s done. God bless them both. 🙏🙏🙏 Such love and devotion! ❤️❤️❤️
